Custom League rules and regulations
stony plain slo-pitch (2025)

  1. You umpire your own team at bat.  If you do not know the rules, please do not umpire.
  2. Must have a minimum of 3 females.  You can play with 9, 10, 11(EH) or 12(4th Female) as long as 3 females are playing and your first 11 batters consist of 3 females and 8 males. We are a 7/3 league with an EH.
  3. 7 runs maximum per inning.  Last inning is open. Mercy: 15 runs ahead after 5 innings but by all means you can keep playing (up to the team with the lead). Please do not go over time limits of games.
  4. Home run limit, 2 per team then 1 for 1.
    - Team A can hit 2 home runs but cannot hit anymore before team B also hits 2. Once team B has hit 2, either team can only have 1 more home run than the other team.  A home run is counted when a ball is hit over the fence* Inside the park will not count against the home run total.
    - Any HR hit that will not count as a HR (because of the rule above) will count as a strike.

*NOTE – Diamond #6 the HR will be as follows-   a ball hit in play over foul pole marker or into rocks is a home run, hits in front and rolls past foul markers or into rocks is a double. Players score if on second or third on ground rule double.

  1. Ties will stand in regular season play.
  2. Unlimited substitution. Any player re-entering must occupy their original batting position in the lineup.  This is mainly due to and allowed because of our back-to-back games.
  3. INFIELD FLY: This is a fair ball (not including a line drive) which can be caught by an infielder, with ordinary effort, when 1st and 2nd or 1st, 2nd and 3rd bases are occupied before there are 2 out.  Infielder’s can include the catcher, and pitcher.  The umpire shall declare “Infield Fly”.  The batter is out, if fair, regardless if the ball is caught.  If the ball is foul and not caught, it is a strike. Runners can advance at their own risk if in fair territory.
  4. WALK RULE: 4 straight balls (4-0) count to a male batter, with a female following, the male goes to 2nd base and the female must hit.
  5. NO PITCH RULE:  Pitch must be a minimum of 6ft. and a maximum of 12ft.   Batter has the option to swing even if called no pitch by the umpire.  If called “No Pitch” but the batter swings and misses, then it is a strike.
  6. Small ball is to be used for female batters. The female has a choice if they would like to hit a big ball.
  7. OVERTHROW:  An overthrow that lands in the dug-out area or under the fence is a “dead ball.”  Runner or runners advance one base.  Balls that hit the fence in the field area are live and runners advance at their own risk.
  8. COURTESY RUNNERS: May be used, provided the batter has safely reached 1st base.  Must be the last out gender equivalent. If the player is injured but there is no sub for them, they may get a runner from home. Runner must start by backstop behind the batter box. Substitution or/and scratching the player should be used before runners from home if possible. ie. if you are batting 4 girls scratch the injured person, no penalty of an out.
  9. COMMITMENT LINE:  8 feet from home plate.  If touched by the runner on the way home, they cannot turn back and go to 3rd base, they MUST go towards home plate.
  10. SCORING LINE: marked as an extension of the first base line.
  11. HOME PLATE:  Board covers the back half of the plate.  The catcher should take the front of the plate, however may use the board.  The runner must cross the RUN BY LINE, which is an extension of the FIRST BASE LINE.  If the runner touches home plate or the board, they are out.  When the ball is hit, if it touches the board, it’s a dead ball.  If it touches the front half of home plate, the ball is in play, if fair.
  12. SAFETY BASE:  Orange to the right.  If running through 1st with no plan to advance the runner must tag the orange. Any intentional movement toward 2nd by a player is in play. If the runner turns left and comes straight back to 1st it is not considered going to second. When running to 2nd, the 1st baseman should move away from the line, unless a play is being made.
  13. No lead offs.  Batter must make contact, or the runner is out.
  14. BASES: 65 FEET.
  15. No bunting.
  16. PITCHER’S MOUND: 50 to 60 feet from the rear of the plate.

No new innings shall start past 1 hour and 15 minutes. No shows without informing the opposing team will be assessed the same as late arrivals. There will be a 3-strike rule for offending teams:
